About Us

HISTORY

Sustainable Capacity Solutions is the one-stop shop for environmental nonprofit capacity building. SCS was federally incorporated in March 2022 and began as a recognition of the vital role small shop environmental nonprofits played in combating climate change and protecting the environment. These dedicated organizations were on the frontlines, engaging directly with local communities, working tirelessly to preserve ecosystems and promote sustainable practices. At the same time, we also saw the challenges they faced due to limited resources and insufficient internal capacity, hindering their ability to make a significant impact.

GOAL

To achieve our vision, we have set the preliminary goals of training 10,000 leaders, recruiting 100 Eco-EDs, hiring & training 500 interns for 250 organizations, and doing the books of 500 organizations by 2032. Presently, we have extended our support to organizations in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Nova Scotia, and Quebec. We’re working towards expanding our impact and collaborating with every province and territory across Canada.

Our ultimate goal is to create a thriving network of empowered environmental nonprofits, united in their commitment to combat climate change and protect the environment for future generations. 

With each passing year, the impact of our capacity-building initiatives grows, leaving a legacy of empowered environmental nonprofits and a sustainable and resilient future for Canada and beyond.

PARTNERSHIP

Peace and Environment Resource Centre (PERC) has been working with local organizations on environmental and social justice issues since 1985. In 2017, PERC started working with the newly established Sustainable Eastern Ontario (SEO) to build networks and capacity amongst Ottawa-based non-profits. After SEO founded Sustainable Capacity Solutions (SCS) and its five social enterprises in 2021, they have continued that partnership to deliver those same results on a national scale. They are our charitable partner and we work to protect the natural environment. 

Together, their collaboration with SCS continues to foster communication among small non-profits operating across Canada to amplify their voices and build capacity, while the foundation continues to inform Ottawa on community-driven initiatives nation-wide to promote environmental and social action in our local region.
